In a fall in his childhood, Grisha Asryan suffered brain damage. His work as a street performer in a monastery in the Armenian exclave of Nagorno-Karabakh enabled him to live a relatively independent life despite his intellectual disability. After Azerbaijan took the area in mid-September, he lost that place in the world forever.
He had to flee and found shelter in a semi-abandoned industrial building in the Armenian capital of Yerevan. Besides his phone, he was only able to grab a handful of documents during his flight. He didn't have time to take his savings with him. Let alone his white horse. Between rusting steel pipes, he now performs the tricks with which he spent half his life entertaining hordes of tourists. 'I don't want to live here,' he preaches. 'The world doesn't care about us, but we are people too, aren't we?'
